I checked into a bunch of different steps and read alot of reviews before deciding to try these. And i wanted to use them for a bit before writing my review. We've now used them for over a month and they are pretty decent steps, I'm very happy with them. The steps seem solid under my plus size weight. They were very easy to put together, took us maybe 10 minutes. I wanted more water flow thru them to try reducing mold build up on the underside, so we didn't put all the wall pieces under each step, i left it more open. And the steps still feel very solid without those pieces. I will say, trying to put the steps into the water was comical. From reading other reviews, i knew we needed to get some weights to hold them in place, but i underestimated how much weight we needed. We ended up getting some of those super sturdy, black storage bins and filled them with bricks. We zip tied one to each side of the steps and one onto the back bar underneath the steps. Plenty of weight is the key! When we close the pool for the winter, we will simply cut the zip ties to release the weight so we can lift the steps out. The one thing i don't like is the wing things that slide down onto the handles for attaching the steps to the deck. They are about an inch thick, but hollow, and have just 1 hole towards the end for a nail or screw. It just doesn't seem sturdy to me. I put alot of thought into this because our pool is about 2 inches higher than our deck, so we would need to nail a board to the deck to make it level with the wings over the pool rim. I didn't like the idea of having a board right at the steps to stub toes on. But my biggest issue is that the 1 hole in the hollow plastic just doesn't seem like it would hold up very long. When you're climbing up out of the water, that's alot of weight being pulled on that 1 nail in a piece of plastic. We ended up removing the wings and tying rope around the handles and attaching it to hooks we put on the underside of the deck. No boards to stub toes on and no holes in the deck. You don't really have to secure these steps to the deck if you have enough weight holding them in place. They felt a little bit wobbly with the water flowing around them before we attached them with the rope, but were fine to use. But now that we figured out how we wanted to attach them to the deck, they feel much sturdier. I would recommend them for the ease of getting in and out of the pool. They are wide enough to move between the handles easily, and i can even sit down comfortably on the steps if I want to just sit in the water. I would recommend these steps for anyone who doesn't like dealing with that standard pool ladder - elderly, plus size, small kids, anyone. It good to put toDecent steps. They look nice, decently wide, decently sturdy, decent quality.... Im just not blown away by it for the price. I wish i would have spent the extra $200 to get the steps i wanted in the first place. Lesson learned. My one handle going down is broke could I get another one?The ladder was very easy to assemble and put in the pool, however you will need at least 90 pounds to hold this ladder down and keep from floating. I wish I would have known this before attempting to set it up in the pool, it would have been so much easier with this information. i hope I have helped at least one person going forward.I purchased these realizing I would have to fill them with sand. I did so according to the manufacturer instructions....as much as I could possible fit into them - and they continued to float in my pool. I then added 30lbs of dumbbells onto the bottom cross bar and that helped, but the only way to actually keep them in place was to screw them into either the pool railings or the deck so do not plan to have these free standing. Another big issue for me is the flimsy, cheap plastic railings. They are not sturdy and will most likely break after a couple seasons. Just watching my 3yr old get out of the pool I see them move much more than they should. I tried to get a refund and send them back but this company makes you pay for the shipping to return them as well as a large box if yours came damaged which makes returning them not much of an option due to cost. The box my stairs came in was torn in multiple places during shipping (which I provided pictures of) and they still tried to make me pay fully to send them back. Their customer service was terrible and only responded once to my emails. When paying over $400 for stairs I would expect much better quality and much better customer service. Would not recommend. It tells you in the directions that you can buy attachments such as sand bags… I’d rather pay a little more and have them come with right from the beginning!I was surprised by the ease of assembly, wife and I had it done in under 2 hours. My one need is information on where I can order the weight set pictured in the instructions.
